Partners have early access to 2020 Think Tank Round Table Series report on AI and healthcare
The national reports have been available for some time. Now the EIT Health Think Tank Round Table Series summary report outlining actions to support the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce and organisational structures in healthcare is available for EIT Health Partners.
Early access to the report is only meant for Partners. The report should not be disseminated further until its external publication planned for the end of April.

Collaboration is key to the breakthrough of AI in Healthcare
Experts from our Think Tank Round Table were interviewed for the new Fokus Healthcare in EW magazine (Elsevier Weekblad). In this article (in Dutch), Pieter Van Gorp and Peter Van Ooijen discuss the barriers and enablers for the successful adoption of AI in The Netherlands.
EIT Health and BioMed Alliance join forces
EIT Health and the Biomedical Alliance in Europe (BioMed Alliance) announce the signing of an MoU signaling moves towards closer collaboration between the healthcare innovation sector and leading medical societies across Europe.
Epileptic Seizure Monitoring: Towards a Wearable Solution
Accurate monitoring of seizures is essential in understanding seizure frequency, and in turn, treatment response, enabling clinicians to prescribe treatments that are specifically tailored to the individual.

On 19 April the state of the art and future perspectives of wearable epileptic seizure monitoring, as well as the lessons learned from the ongoing European SeizelT trials are presented to you. SeizeIT is a consortium of EIT Health partners committed to improving the care and treatment of people with epilepsy, through collaboration and innovation.

Pilot Call for Proposals
EIT to boost innovation in higher education
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is launching the HEI Initiative: Innovation Capacity Building for Higher Education − a new initiative to unlock the full innovation potential of higher education institutions’ (HEIs) by increasing their entrepreneurial and innovation capacity whilst integrating them into Europe’s largest innovation ecosystem.
The Pilot Call for Proposals invites European higher education institutions to design institution-wide action plans that will improve their entrepreneurial and innovation capacity across all institutional levels.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 25 May 2021, and the selected pilot projects will be announced in June 2021.
BENEFIT – the Health Innovation Fellowship from our region
Innovation based on needs has a better chance of achieving business success and ultimately helping patients. These fellowships focus on real solutions for real needs.
BENEFIT brings together talents in engineering, medicine, design and business to co-create innovative solutions in healthcare. This novel one-year postgraduate fellowship is organised in Belgium and the Netherlands.

Four exciting companies receive expert mentoring
Four promising healthcare start-ups have proven the viability of their innovations and business plans in a competitive EIT Health Gold Track workshop in February.
These start-ups have been selected to progress to the next stage of the programme and receive individualised and tailored mentoring by leading industry players, to support them in achieving commercial success.
From our Regional Innovation Hub three companies were selected to return for the next Gold Track stage:
- Minovia: Using mitochondrial cell therapy to bring life-changing, meaningful therapies to people affected with mitochondrial diseases.
- Scenic Biotech: Focused on identifying genetic modifiers for drug intervention.
- NovaSight: Using eye tracking and AI, to revolutionize pediatric vision care.

- EIT Health backed start-up Qompium (Fibricheck) raises €9M
- The radiation free bone imaging, BoneMRI technique, of MRIguidance is now used as one of the standard scans in imaging of the pelvic region and hips in UZ Ghent
